Toast black sesame seeds in a dry pan until fragrant. Let cool.

Blend sesame seeds with water until very smooth. Strain through a fine sieve.

Combine sesame liquid with more water in a pot. Add sugar and a pinch of salt.

Mix cornstarch with cold water and stir into the sesame mixture. Cook over medium heat, stirring until thickened.
